Sub51 – Quondam For NI Kontakt
In all there are over 300 patches which may be further modified via Pan, Tune, Envelope and Velocity controls...
Sub51 are always open to a challenge, so when it was suggested that they create a varied sample library of pads, rhythms, drones, loops, effects, lead sounds and basses using only sounds sampled from a bass guitar being played, hit or scraped, they were only too happy to oblige.
Requiring the full version of NI’s Kontakt (6.6.0 onwards), Quondam’s contents are divided into Bass, ‘Clicks, Pops and Scrapes’, Dark Arp Loops (Host Sync), Dark Arp Slices with MIDI files, Drones and FX, Hollowed, Morphed, Noises, Obscure, Pads, Rhythmic Loops (Host Sync) and Rhythmic Slices with MIDI files.
In all there are over 300 patches which may be further modified via Pan, Tune, Envelope and Velocity controls as well as resonant filtering, lo-fi transformations, saturation and host synced multi-wave LFO modulation with variable fade-in time.
Additionally there are effects comprising Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Phase and Flanger where all but reverb have host sync options. In the relevant sections, the sample start time can also be adjusted with the sample waveform displayed within the instrument’s intuitive, single page GUI.
Quondam preset options include Taurus-like basses, textural drones, shifting pads, melodic rhythms, percussive spot effects and synth sounds that range from bell-like to Wavestation-style complexity. What you won’t find is anything recognisable as a bass guitar
Quondam will appeal to generes such as Ambient, Electro, Ethera, Experimental, EDM and more but in reality the only limitation is imagination.
